Manufactured by the electrolysis of salt brine, Sodium Hydroxide is often referred to by the common names; caustic soda, lye and sodium hydrate. Sodium Hydroxide is a white crystalline substance that readily absorbs carbon dioxide and moisture from the air. When mixed with water Sodium Hydroxide produces a strong alkaline solution. Sodium Hydroxide uses include the manufacture of pulp and paper, textiles, drain cleaners, soaps and detergents.
